• Eligibility and target group

  Students

  To be eligible, Indian undergraduate and master students as well as doctoral and post-doctoral candidates:

  1. Must be nationals of India;
  2. Must have not resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the eligible European countries at the time of submitting their application to the partnership. This rule does not apply to TGIII candidates;
  3. have successfully completed at least one year of studies in their home institution;
  4. For Target Group 1 (TGI): students need to be registered at one of the indian HEIs within the HERITAGE partnership at the time of submitting their application: Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai ; Anna University, Chennai; Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai; Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur; Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati; National Institute of Technology Warangal; National Institute of Technology Rourkela. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies in their home institution;
  5. For Target Group 2 (TGII): students need either to be registered in an indian HEI (not included in the partnership; can be an associated partner) or to have obtained a university degree or equivalent from an indian HEI. Undergrads students of TGII are not eligible;
  6. For Target Group 3 (TGIII): must be in particularly vulnerable situations, for social and political reasons and/or part of minority groups (this is in line with the Government of India's policies towards the relevant vulnerable and/or minority groups).  For example: 1) having a refugee status or asylum beneficiaries (international or according to the national legislation of one of the European recipient countries) or 2) it can be proved that they have been the object of unjustified expulsion from HEI on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination or 3) they belong to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons);
  7. Must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the hosting countries.
  8. Must have NOT benefited from a previous scholarship for the same type of mobility under a project under the EMA2-STRAND1.

  Academic and administrative staff

  In order to be eligible, academic and administrative staff hereafter referred as "staff":

  1. Must be a national of one of the eligible countries;
  2. HEIs participating in the partnership.
  3. For Target Group 2 (TGII): indian staff must work in or be associated to an indian HEI (not included in the partnership).

  The mobility assignments must be based on partnership agreements between the members of the partnership.

  The home and host universities and the individual staff must agree on the programme of lectures to be delivered by the visiting staff, on the research activities or on the type of training to be followed.

  Candidates cannot benefit from more than one mobility activity within the same project.

  Staff mobility can start at any time within the project duration and must end within the project eligibility period.

  The lengths above are the maximum mobility lengths. Only the start date and end date of the registration at the host university which will be indicated on the Acceptance letter will define the exact mobility length. All mobilities must be finished by the end of the eligibility period of the project: 14 July 2016.

  Mobility flows for students and staff between the european or between indian institutions involved in the partnership are not eligible.

  Internship: Student mobility may include a placement period (max 3 months) in the same country of the hosting HEIs partners, provided that it is preceded by a minimum period of study abroad of six months and that it is recognized as an integral part of the students' programme. The placement should be agreed by all partners concerned and a close monitoring of the students should be ensured.

• Application

  Fist of all, candidates must consult the list of academic courses offered by the HERITAGE european partner institutions in "Courses for Application".

  2. Upload the following documents depending on:

  • your level of mobility
    • Undergraduates
    • Masters
    • PhD
    • PostDoc
    • Staff
  • your target group
    • TG1 : document certifying that the applicant is registered in one of the indian HEIs within the partnership at the time of submitting their application.
    • TG2 : document certifying that the applicant is registered in an indian HEI (not included in the partnership; can be an associated partner) or university degree from an indian HEI.
    • TG3 : document certifying that the applicant is in a vulnerable situation (for example: having a refugee status or asylum beneficiaries (international or according to the national legislation of one of the European recipient countries) or have been the object of unjustified expulsion from university on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination or belonging to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons)

  Only complete applications will be eligible : all mandatory fields of the application form must be filled out and all required documents (depending on your mobility type and target group) must be uploaded. If any mandatory document is missing, the application will not be eligible.

  These documents must be prepared and uploaded for each course offer you apply for.

   

• Selection

  1. Eligibility: Your application will be eligible only if:
  a. All mandatory fields of the application form are complete
  b. All required documents (depending on your target group and level) are uploaded
  c. The language certificate matches the language requirements of the offer(s) chosen

  2. Criteria: the following criteria will be graded for all levels:

  3. The selection committee will issue three lists:
  a. An accepted list : the candidates concerned will receive a pre-acceptance letter
  b. A waiting list: the candidates concerned will receive an e-mail; if there are drop-outs from the accepted list, they could access the accepted list. In this case, they would receive a pre-acceptance letter.
  c. A rejected list: the candidates will receive an e-mail. Appeals of the candidates must be sent by email to the Coordinator using the Heritage project official email address within 8 days after the publication of the results.

   

• From the application until the end of the mobility

  Application - open from 3 December 2012 to 3 February 2013

  • During this period, the applicant must fill in the application form as well as upload the required documents before the closing of the application. IMPORTANT : as some documents require the signature of the home or host university which may take some time, the applicant should take this period into consideration and complete the application as early as possible.

  Selection and Confirmation – March/April 2013

  • Selected students will receive a Pre acceptance Letter and must confirm their pre acceptance in 15 days.
  • An Acceptance Letter will be sent to the students who confirmed their pre acceptance. It must be signed and returned to the host institution in due time.
  • Student Agreements must be signed by the fellow, the hosting HEI Local Coordinator and the HERITAGE Coordinator, before the start of the mobility.

  Preparing the mobility – April/August 2013

  • The coordination institution (Ecole Centrale Nantes) will do the necessary for insurance as well as flight booking (return ticket in the limit of the fixed-amount rate)
  • The student and host university cooperate for the visa procedure, the academic choices, and any other practical and administrative aspects. The host university will help you to find an accommodation.

  Start of the mobility – September 2013

  • Students arrive at their host university with the following documents: passport, visa, boarding pass, Learning Agreement, Acceptance letter, Student Agreement, as well as any other document required by the host university.
  • Upon arrival, fellows will complete and sign an Arrival Certificate, and validate their Learning Agreement (already signed by home university and applicant) for Undergraduates and Masters or their Work Plan (signed by home and host university, applicant) for PhD, Post Doc and Staff
  • Every 3 months, participants will meet the local coordinator at the host university to sign an Attendance List.

  During the mobility

  • Students will be asked to write reports (intermediates and final) :
  • For mobilities of 18, 24 and 36 months: one report after 3 months, one at the end of each year and a final one at the end of the stay.
  • For mobilities of 6 and 10 months: one report after 3 months and one at the end of the stay.

  At the end of the mobility

  • Students must return to their home university with their transcript of records.

• Recognition procedure

  The recognition tool is the Learning Agreement.

  What is a Learning Agreement?

  It is a document which defines the courses followed by the student and the corresponding ECTS (European Credit Transfer Sytem). The home institution, the host institution and the student must agree and sign the learning agreement for it to be valid.

  What is a credit?

  The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a standard for comparing the study attainment and performance of students of higher education. It is a student-centred system based on the student workload required, the objectives preferably specified in terms of learning outcomes, competences to be acquired and hours of study. One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS-credits.

  What is the procedure for credit transfer?

  The learning agreement will be drawn up by the home institution and the student before the start of the mobility. The document will be brought to the host institution by the student. The academic coordinator will discuss with the applicant about the learning agreement and modify it if necessary. This will be the last and official version which must be signed by the home institution, the host institution as well as the student.

  In the end of the student's mobility, the home HEI will naturally acknowledge the validity of the hosting HEI's credits. Then via the Credit Transfer Collaborative Committee the Coordination Institution (Ecole Centale Nantes) will make sure that all credits have been formally recognized, case by case.
